A level generally refers to a level gauge, which is an instrument that establishes a horizontal line of sight to determine the height difference between two points on the ground. The principle is to measure the height difference between ground points according to the leveling principle. The main components are telescope, tube level (or compensator), vertical axis, base, foot spiral. According to the structure, it is divided into micro-tilt level, automatic anping level, laser level and digital level (also known as electronic level). According to the precision is divided into precision level and ordinary level.

A common level used to obtain a horizontal line of sight by means of a micro-tilt screw. During the operation, the instrument shall be roughly leveled with a round level, and before each reading, the instrument shall be pitched in the vertical plane with the aid of a micro-tilt screw until the bubble is accurately centered to meet the level, so that the line of sight is horizontal. Compared with the ordinary level, the slightly inclined precision level has the advantages of small division value, high sensitivity, large magnification of the telescope, strong brightness and solid structure of the instrument, especially the connection between the telescope and the tube level is firm, equipped with an optical micrometer and a precision leveling rod to improve the reading accuracy. The micro-tilt precision level produced in China has a telescope magnification of 40 times, a tube level division value of 10 "/2mm, and an optical micrometer reading of 0.05mm. The telescope sighting part, tube level and optical micrometer are all installed together in the heat shield.
Key points of operation of level:
Between the unknown two points, open the tripod, take out the level from the instrument box and place it on the tripod, use three frame screws to level, center the round bubble, and follow the leveling tube level. The horizontal brake handwheel is leveled, reflected by a triangular prism in the horizontal mirror, and the horizontal overlap is horizontal. Aim the telescope at the tower ruler on the unknown point (1), level the pipe level again, read the reading of the tower ruler (rear view), rotate the telescope to the tower ruler on the unknown point (2), adjust the pipe level, read the reading of the tower ruler (front view), and record it on the record book.
